چکیده

Intuitively, many wireless and sensing applications benefit from knowledge of network boundaries. Many virtual coordinate constructions rely on the furthest set of nodes as beacons. Network edges may also bound routing holes in the network, regions of failure due to environmental effects, or indicate the need for additional deployment. In this paper we solve the edge detection problem locally using a geometric structure called the alphashape (a-shape). For a disc of radius 1=a, the a-shape consists of nodes (and joining edges) that sit on the boundary of the discs that contain no other nodes in the network. In the simplest terms a node decides it is on a network boundary by asking the following question: ‘‘Do I sit on the boundary of a disc of radius 1=a that contains no other nodes in the network?” We show that using only local communications our algorithm is provably correct. Boundary nodes may further participate to reduce unwanted detail. We show via simulation that our algorithm identifies meaningful boundaries even in networks of low-density and non-uniform distribution. ! 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Target Tracking Based on Virtual Grid in Wireless Sensor Networks

One of the most important and typical application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is target tracking. Although target tracking, can provide benefits for large-scale WSNs and organize them into clusters but tracking a moving target in cluster-based WSNs suffers a boundary problem. The main goal of this paper was to introduce an efficient and novel mobility management protocol namely Target Tr...

ENERGY AWARE DISTRIBUTED PARTITIONING DETECTION AND CONNECTIVITY RESTORATION ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

Mobile sensor networks rely heavily on inter-sensor connectivity for collection of data. Nodes in these networks monitor different regions of an area of interest and collectively present a global overview of some monitored activities or phenomena. A failure of a sensor leads to loss of connectivity and may cause partitioning of the network into disjoint segments. A number of approaches have be...

An Efficient Routing Algorithm to Lifetime Expansion in Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper proposes an efficient network architecture to improve energy consumption in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The proposed architecture uses a mobile data collector to a partitioned network. The mobile data collector moves to center of each logical partition after each decision period. The mobile data collector must declare its new location by packet broadcasting to all sensor node...

Energy-Saving in Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Optimization Sink Movement Control

A sensor network is made up of a large number of sensors with limited energy. Sensors collect environmental data then send them to the sink. Energy efficiency and thereby increasing the lifetime of sensor networks is important. Direct transfer of the data from each node to the central station will increase energy consumption. Previous research has shown that the organization of nodes in cluster...
